Copper and Stone Landscape

A tired exposed aggregate concrete patio with faded white painted border was replace with natural patterned bluestone at this Orono, Minnesota home.  Copper spillway added sound and interest to existing fieldstone wall.  The center piece of the backyard is the hand-hammer copper natural gas fire-pit, complete with under lighting and remote starter.  Bluestone and granite grilling station include a built-in Green Egg and Wolf grillhead.  An iPad controls music, lights, and fire-pit.

Challenge

The existing boulder wall defined the layout of the space since the wall creating a living tapestry of life.

Coordinating all the subcontractors is always a challenge on a detailed project like this.

Had to meet a high school graduation deadline.

Solution

The curve in the boulder wall allowed for a curvilinear patio which a circular fire-table sits in the middle.  Following the existing wall provide a natural flow from upon entering the garden to the grilling station at the far end.

Had to always be on everyone to make sure their aspect of the job was completed on time so the next contractor was not delayed.  All-in-all working with twelve different individuals or companies worked out somehow.

Even though the client added containers, that were custom made locally in the Twin Cities, and then had me do the flowers for them the week before the graduation, everything worked out wonderfully for the event.  Had prefect weather and everyone enjoyed the new setting.
